The Exeter Court Hotel couldn’t be better placed for you to take full advantage of all the activities available in the area.
Right on our doorstep is the historic city of Exeter which is full of great shops, restaurants and cafes – take a stroll down Gandy Street and browse the unique gift, fashion and jewellery stores. The Quayside area is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon by the water – if it looks familiar, it’s because it was used as one of the sets for the famous BBC series ‘The Onedin Line’. The Quay House visitor centre gives a fascinating insight into the history of the area.
There are so many ways to experience history nearby – also in the centre of Exeter you’ll find Rougemont Castle. Dating back to Norman times, the castle and the adjacent Northernhay Gardens are well worth a visit. Just to the south of the Exeter Court Hotel is the 600 year old Powderham Castle; the castle is idyllically placed alongside the river Exe surrounded by an ancient deer park. There are often special events held in the grounds throughout the year, from Easter egg treasure trails and antique fairs to live music and grand summer balls.
Dartmoor is just minutes away from the Exeter Court Hotel and offers the perfect opportunity to get away from it all and enjoy beautiful scenery. One of Britain’s favourite national parks, Dartmoor is a stunning environment in which to enjoy walking or horse riding. Only six miles away is the south Devon coast - Teignmouth, with its sandy beach, classic promenade and historic harbour makes a wonderful day out.
